Duffield pleased with point at Gresley

Duffield pleased with point at Gresley

The Nailers earned a draw away at the Moat Ground on Saturday afternoon, with a dominant performance and a new signing shining in defence, writes Joe Malone.

Philip Watt was signed last week from Coalville and manager Peter Duffield is only too pleased to have him in his squad.

“He’s a very good player. Coalville did all they could to keep hold of him but he came to us and has started off brilliantly.

“I hope he can continue to perform in that manner but I know just how good he is.”

Although the Nailers only picked up a single point, Duffield believes the performance deserves a special mention.

“We played extremely well. We created five good opportunities and on any other given day we probably would have scored one or two of them.

“It’s easy to feel frustrated that we only got a point but coming away to this ground to play Gresley who themselves are on form at the moment and perform the way we did, was very pleasing.

“Of course it’s disappointing when you don’t score but that was the only disappointing thing from yesterday.

“However the players’ attitude, commitment and desire throughout the game was fantastic and I can’t ask any more of them.”

The boss was also keen to praise the recent performance of Simon Harrison (pictured).

“He’s on good form at the moment. When he plays like that he is very dangerous and puts defences on the back foot.

“It’s always vital to have a player with the ability he has from set pieces and deliveries; it always gives you a good chance.”

Duffield also expressed his hope of some positive news on the Nailers injury list.

“It’s another week that’s gone by and the likes of Jon Froggatt and Colin Marrison are just about back to full fitness now.

“Sam Duncum is also ready now and he got through twenty minutes at the weekend.

“And apart from Aaron Pride, the only other long term injury is Dan White but as the weeks go by it’s also a week closer to his return.”
