Comrades win again

Comrades win again

Andrew Sparrow9 Mar - 07:59

Steady home performance secures all three points

Berkhamsted 2 Flackwell Heath 0

Chris Devane’s Comrades made it ten unbeaten in the sunshine at the Glencar Community Stadium with an ultimately comfortable two goal win. Visitors Flackwell Heath were strong and robust all afternoon, but offered little going forward, and Rayan Clarke’s 78th minute goal put the game to bed after a second half of almost non-stop Berko pressure.

Man of the match JJ Lacey was involved in both goals, his cross in the first half leading to confusion in the Flackwell defence, with a sliced clearance looping over the goalkeeper and rebounding off the post, allowing BJ Christie to react quickest and score with a diving header, the striker’s fourth goal in three games. One nil to the Comrades after 18 minutes.

The second came on the break, with a lovely pass from Lacey releasing Conor Tomlinson down the right - his cross was controlled at the far post by Clarke, who steadied himself and fired into the bottom corner to confirm the home win. Earlier, Luke Andrews had hit the angle of post and crossbar, and the Flackwell Heath defence had dealt effectively with numerous corners as Berko pressed hard, attacking their favoured Canal End.

Little was seen of league top scorer Makowski, who was well marshalled by the home defence, Lucas Perry in particular looking impressive in a switch to centre half. Returning goalkeeper Hafed Al Droubi looked good all afternoon, and did what little he had to do calmly and with confidence, and now has two clean sheets in three appearances.

Even a late booking for Devane failed to disturb the Comrades, and another comfortable home win leaves Berko level on points with Real Bedford at the top of the league. The game between the two at the Glencar on 22nd March looks like being a cracker - put the date in your diary!
