The Reserves opponents in the FA Sunday Intermediate Cup could not field a team which means we are through to the third round without yet kicking a ball in the competition!

The first team went through to the quarter finals of the Steve Norwood Cup by beating The Midland 7-1 with five second half goals after the Div 1 side made it hard for us in the first half. Our first goal was scored by Chris Vardy who chased a ball down the middle and the keeper’s attempted clearance rebounded from him, leaving him to tap into the empty goal. The Midland equalized but soon after Sam Copson was on the end of a Liam Crane cross and volleyed left-footed just inside the post. 2-1 at the end of a fairly even first half.

Lee Richards scored our third from picking up a poor pass back to the keeper and converting well. Matt Evans got himself on the score sheet once again from a free kick. I’d love to say he smashed it in but the truth is that the keeper tried to catch it but dropped it behind him and it went in the net! Our fifth was from Mikey Armorgie who scored a bullet header at the far post from a corner. The sixth goal was a simple tap-in from Chris Vardy after the keeper saved a shot from Adam Sawko from just outside the box but could not hold on to it. Lee Richards scored our seventh in the last minute to give us an emphatic win. It was good to see that we had a full squad today with recent signings Zac Banson, Hasnain Abbas and Adam Sawko all getting games from the bench. Next Sunday, we are home to Magpies 91 who will give us a big test.

The Reserves are away to The Midland in the league at Grovehill next Sunday.
