Northumberland RFU are launching a way for people who can't commit to regular rugby or find it difficult to play on a Saturday to play more rugby.
Our Northumberland Rugby Development Officer Dave Reed explains:
"Before Christmas we spoke about having a number of festivals for players around the age of 30. I also said I would write to you all confirming dates and venues about a month before hand, so you could contact your lapsed players and offer them an alternative playing opportunity. Below is a table with the venues and dates, also a list of clubs in that area within Northumberland we suggest they attend.
Venue Alnwick RFC
Date 27th March
Clubs: Berwick Alnwick, Morpeth & Ashington
In terms of the event itself we hope that each club can get a team into the festival your club has been aligned to. However if you are short of a few players on the night it is envisaged that clubs just lend each other players to get the games going. We will liase with the Northumberland Referees Society to ensure we have referees on each of the nights. We will also have RFU staff at each event to ensure the event is organised for you.
The end product is hopefully we can roll this out more (4 times per year) to players who cannot also play on Saturday afternoons or that regularly. Also it may allow players who cannot commit regularly, to re-think their situation and play more. It is also seen that this may have a social impact, on your club with players returning.
Can I please ask if you think you would like to take part in the event in your area, you contact those lapsed players and enter a team. All entries need to be into me one week before the event.
As ever if you have any questions please give me a call."
So are there any players interested in playing for Berwick so that we can enter a team? If so can you post your name below so that we can gauge interest.
I think this is a great idea to get more rugby played and if you can play then please do give it a whirl.
