Bideford picked up their first win of pre-season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over local rivals Barnstaple Town at the Sports Ground.
Barnstaple came into the game off the back of some good wins in pre-season but fell behind inside two minutes thanks to a smart near post finish from Ryan Turner.
Turner almost made it 2-0 on 26 minutes volleying just over on the stretch after a good run from Josh Webber. Archie Reay saw a low strike tipped round the post before the visitors had a great chance to equalise but were denied by an excellent save by Mike Searle.
Webber was then played through six minutes later and finished well to double Bideford’s lead heading into half time.
The Barum goalkeeper got caught out in no man’s land just past the hour but a defender came to his rescue to deny Reay’s effort from distance.
Barnstaple’s number seven curled a shot wide of Searle’s goal in the 67th minute and blazed a glorious opportunity over the bar from close range eight minutes later.
That was about as good as it got for the visitors though as a poor back pass saw their goalkeeper stranded 20 yards from goal as Scott Robinson stole in to sweep the ball away and run it into an empty net.
Next up, The Robins will face a tougher test as Southern League Premier Division side Plymouth Parkway visit the Sports Ground on Tuesday night.
