A Brief History of Hereford FC/Hereford United
Hereford are a phoenix club that came into being after Hereford United were dissolved in December 2014. They continue to play at Edgar Street and re-entered the English football league system in 2015/16 competing in the Midland League Premier Division (level nine).
Hereford United were founded in 1924 and joined the Birmingham & District League in 1928 where they played until joining the Southern League in 1939/40. In 1958/59 Hereford United were crowned champions of the Southern League North West Division and gained promotion to the Premier Division. After five years in the Premier they were relegated but bounced right back winning the Division One title. Hereford spent a further seven years in the Premier Division and in 1971/72 finished as runners-up and were promoted to the Football League. That same season they gained national exposure with one of the greatest FA Cup upsets of all time beating top-flight Newcastle United in the third round. The next season Hereford finished as runners-up in Division Four and were promoted. Just three years later they were Division Three champions and gained promotion to Division Two (known these days as The Championship) but were relegated after just one season at that level. Another relegation followed the next season and Hereford would compete in the fourth tier of English football between 1978 and 1997 (note: Division Four was renamed Division Three in 1992 after the birth of the Premier League). In 1996/97 Hereford finished bottom of Division Three and dropped back into non-league football for the first time in 25 years. They made their return to the Football League after finishing 2nd in 2005/06 and beating Halifax in the Conference Play-Off Final. In 2007/08 Hereford finished third in League Two (the fourth tier formerly known as Division Three) and were promoted to League One but were relegated back after one season. In 2011/12 they were relegated to the Conference and after finishing 20th in 2013/14 Hereford were expelled from the league due to financial irregularities. They were accepted into the Southern League Premier Division for 2014/15 but did not complete the season. The club was wound-up in the High Court in December 2014.
Soon after the Hereford United Supporters Trust began working on starting a new phoenix club called Hereford Football Club. Hereford returned to action in 2015/16 in the Midland League Premier Division. As expected they sailed through the season winning the league with a points total of 108. They also reached the FA Vase final at Wembley but lost 4-1 to Morpeth Town. With the finances now available to them and a large fan base, Hereford are expected to be back in the National League (formerly Conference) in no time.

Form Guide
Hereford have won seven of their last ten league games and barring a miracle will be promoted as champions of Division One South & West this season. The Bulls have only failed to win six of their 33 league games this season (W27 D5 L1) with their only defeat coming at the hands of Taunton Town in January. Wimborne Town and Larkhall Athletic were both able to take a point from Hereford in February although the league leaders bounced back with a home win over Swindon Supermarine. John Mills tops the league scoring chart with 31 goals, two of which came against Bideford at Edgar Street in November.

Bideford's eight game unbeaten streak in the league will face it's sternest test against champions-elect Hereford on Saturday. The Robins will feel an upset is not beyond them having pushed Hereford all the way in the reverse fixture at Edgar Street in November. Like Hereford, Bideford's only league defeat of 2017 so far came at the hands of Taunton Town. The Robins will need to be at their best on Saturday if they are to stretch their unbeaten streak to nine. Bideford are 8th in the league (W15 D8 L10).
