Bedford Town 2-3 Biggleswade Town | Matchday 18 Match Report

A determined Biggleswade Town side couldn’t quite get over the line in a hard-fought 3-2 loss at Bedford Town.

The loss sees the Waders sit 11 points from safety after 17 games and Bedford Town climb up to 8th in the Southern Premier League.

The match started poorly for Biggleswade Town, with Bedford having a goal from James Clifton being disallowed from a corner within the first 2 minutes.

Biggleswade continued to struggle to gain any real foothold early on, eventually being punished by Leon Lobjoit, who scored in the 9th and 11th minutes to give Bedford a deserving lead.

However, Biggleswade weren’t going to roll over and began to put pressure on Bedford Town.

Eventually a corner from new signing Seb Simpson in the 27th minute found its way down at the back post to Barsa Mirtahmasebi. Mirtahmasebi smartly cut the ball back across goal to Daniel Izekor who tucked it in at point blank range.

The goal is Izekor’s first for the Waders after signing for the club just over a week ago.
It continued to look promising for Biggleswade Town after the goal, with a Mirtahmasebi chip almost finding its way into the net, but they couldn’t find the equalizer before half time.
The second half started similar to how the first ended, with Biggleswade mounting pressure in search of an equalizer, but struggling to create any clear-cut chances.

At last, they managed to make something happen. In the 54th minute, Bedford Town’s Carl Mensah punched the ball out of the air giving Biggleswade Town a penalty and the chance to equalize.

Captain Ryan Doherty stepped up to take it and slid it into the bottom right corner. At first, it seemed the keeper made a great save, but it hit off his back and found its way rolling into the net. 2-2.

Now they had a point, Biggleswade continued on, and almost found a winner with an audacious strike from Seb Simpson rattling the bar, once again hitting the back of the goalkeeper, but this time it didn’t roll into the back of the net.

However, despite the run of play going against them, Bedford proved to be the more clinical of the two sides with Clifton rising above the Waders defensive line from a corner and scoring in the 70th minute to put Bedford Town ahead.

Even with continued fight throughout the final 20 minutes, Biggleswade Town couldn’t find the goal to get a result with the game ending 3-2 in favour of the home side.
