Biggleswade Town made the coach journey to Coleshill for their FA Trophy clash, seeking to extend their four-match unbeaten run and build some momentum towards a trophy push.

Biggleswade started the match brightly, looking sharp in the opening two minutes.

However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. Coleshill had a great chance saved in the 5th minute by keeper Jack Berman, but Biggleswade’s defence struggled to settle, and the team failed to find their usual fluidity.

By the 7th minute, disaster struck. A Coleshill pass found McSkeane, who sent the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net. The Waders were stunned, and the mood only worsened moments later when Coleshill made it 2-0.

The Waders, despite being the better side on paper, were left hanging their heads as they seemed to gift their opponents two easy goals.

Biggleswade tried to respond, but things continued to go against them. Just as they were finding a foothold in the game, a well-placed header by Josh Steele looked to pull one back for the Waders just before halftime. However, the goal was ruled out for an alleged infringement on the Coleshill goalkeeper, a decision that left the Biggleswade players and fans in disbelief.

To make matters worse, Coleshill caught the Waders on the break in the 43rd minute, adding a third goal to leave Biggleswade facing a daunting 3-0 deficit at the break.

The Waders were in tatters as they trudged off the pitch. The players, fans, and even the board knew that they needed at least three goals to get back in the game and keep their FA Trophy hopes alive. Biggleswade hadn’t been scoring freely this season, so a comeback seemed a huge ask. But, as always, the Waders were determined to fight.

The second half began with renewed energy from Biggleswade, who dominated possession and began to assert themselves more in attack. They launched a series of long-range shots, but despite the pressure, the goal wouldn’t come.

The frustration continued with a dubious call from the ref as Biggleswade were looking to score, but the Waders refused to be discouraged. It was clear that a goal was coming, and the fans were fully behind them, willing their team to get on.

Then, in the 59th minute, the breakthrough came. A Steele header found the foot of Cyrus Babaie, who made no mistake, powering the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

From that moment, the Waders were unstoppable. Babaie wasn’t done yet, and just minutes later, he latched onto a cross, bicycle kicking it into the bottom left corner for 3-2.

Babaie’s magic was far from finished. A mere 1 minute later, he completed his hat-trick. The turnaround was complete, and Biggleswade were now brimming with belief, suddenly looking like the side that could go on to win. 3-3.

Coleshill, rattled by the Waders’ relentless pressure, saw their manager lose his temper, throwing the ball away from the pitch in frustration, earning him a red card. The Waders now had the upper hand, and they pushed for the win.

In the 75th minute, Josh Steele rose to meet a perfect cross, powering a header into the back of the net to put Biggleswade ahead for the first time in the match at 4-3. But just as it seemed they might seal the win, Coleshill hit back again, catching the Waders on the break and scoring to make it 4-4 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Biggleswade were now staring down the barrel of a possible penalty shoot-out, with haunting memories of last week’s cup disappointment fresh in their minds. The tension in the air was palpable as both teams searched for a winner.

In the final minutes, Biggleswade were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. The first attempt sailed high and wide, but moments later another free-kick in the same spot. With time running out, Ibz stepped up to take the second chance. As the fans held their breath, Ibz coolly struck the ball over the Coleshill goalkeeper, sending it dipping into the net to give Biggleswade a dramatic 5-4 victory.

The Waders had done it – a remarkable comeback that will go down in history. From 3-0 down to 5-4 winners, they showed incredible resilience, determination, and belief to book their place in the next round of the FA Trophy.
