Every point is precious for Biggleswade Town, and this clash against Hitchin Town was no exception, with both sides desperately needing points from the game.
The opening was lively, with Babaie causing early problems for the Hitchin defence. Biggleswade were strong, pressing with purpose, but the breakthrough eluded us.
When Hitchin struck first through Deall, it was a frustrating moment. A goal that could and should have been prevented. The immediate response from Biggleswade showed the spirit within the side. The Waders carved out a golden opportunity as Izekor burst through, only for his finish to let him down at the crucial moment. Moments later, Berman’s foul on Brooks handed Hitchin a penalty, and suddenly, the waders were two goals down.
Still, our heads didn’t drop. Steele’s poacher’s effort from a corner clawed us back into the contest before halftime. At 2-1, we felt the momentum was shifting, going into the break, believing we could turn the game around.
The second half began with Hitchin’s triple substitution, and the impact was immediate. Ekongo’s goal extended their lead, making our task even steeper. But the Waders refused to go quietly. Time and again, we probed their defence, using set pieces and long throws to generate chances. Izekor and Andrews came close, but the finishing touch proved elusive.
Ultimately, it was a painful result. Hitchin’s tactical changes proved decisive, but they were made to work hard for their points.
For Biggleswade Town, the result does not reflect the heart and quality they displayed. The Waders will keep fighting.
