It was a disappointing result for the Birkmyre senior team when they travelled away to Waysiders last Saturday.
Waysiders grabbed the first score in the opening 7 minutes, with a catch and drive from the line out. (7-0). Birkmyre managed to get the next score after a number of phases. Prop Ru Pinkerton went on one of his trademark runs and scored under the posts. David Cruickshank adding the extras (7-7).
However, things got a bit tougher for Birkmyre before the half when Pinkerton was given a yellow card after a number of penalties had been giving away.
In the second half, Birkmyre managed to pile the pressure on Waysiders. After a sliced kick, the Birkmyre forwards trucked up the yards, until the ball went wide to winger Harris McFie who was tackled short of the try line. However, Scott Ritchie reacted quickly with a pick and go and made it across the line for the second converted score. (7-14)
Waysiders brought the scores level again after some quick thinking and open play to score under the posts. However, Birkmyre did manage to regain the lead after a David Cruickshank penalty only a couple of minutes later (14-17).
Time was running out and Birkmyre looked like they may have the game won. However, after giving away a penalty advantage, Waysiders young fly half opted for a cross field kick into the corner for their full back to seal the game. Waysiders added the extras.
Birkmyre MOTM was Martin McLeman for his work efforts around the park.
Birkmyre travel to Lomond / Helensburgh this Saturday.
