Birkmyre 1st XV travelled to Scotstoun to take on 4th place Hyndland last Saturday.
It was a scrappy 1st half, but Birkmyre had most of the possession and made good breaks but were unlucky not to finish due to knock-ons and penalties being conceded.
It took until the half hour mark to get the first set of points on the board. 18 year old fly half David Cruickshank sent a kick down to the home team's 22 and they couldn't cope with the awkwardly bouncing ball on the astro. This forced the Hyndland full back to shank his kick straight into the hands of another 18 year old, 2nd row forward Ali Dickson, who powered his way to the line. Cruickshank added the conversion (0-7)
Under 5 mins later, Birkmyre won a line out on the attacking 22, and a simply play between the Birkmyre centres of Gordon Stien and Cameron Marr, saw Marr using his pace to break the defence to score next to the posts. Cruickshank converted (0-14)
In the 2nd half Birkmyre played a number of attacking phases and Marr once again used his pace to break tackles. He was slowed on the home 22 but a great supporting line by winger Struan McCamley saw the 3rd try for the bears under the posts. Cruickshank conversion (0-21)
Hyndland managed to get a try back, but shortly after, a power run by front row Andy Pearson (yes believe it or not), got Birkmyre into the Hyndland 22. The ball was moved wide and with a beautiful switch play by Martin McLeman and Ali Peacock, he ran under the posts for the vital bonus point & converted try (5-28)
Hyndland had multiple chances but only managed to secure one more score. However, Birkmyre were not finished, and centre Cammy Marr made a simple running line off Cruickshank to score his 2nd and Birkmyre's 5th try, Cruickshank again adding 2 more points (10-35).
To finish off and settle the game down, David Cruickshank added a penalty, keeping his kicking 100% for the day. He also picked up Man of the Match for his overall control and open play kicking allowing big attacks for his team.
Next week sees a huge away fixture at Bishopton in another top of the table clash. The players are looking for a massive support to come along as Bishopton will be looking for revenge after their recent cup tie defeat to the bears.
