Bishopthorpe began their campaign with an six wicket victory against Kelfield at Ferry Lane. Kelfield chose to bat first but lost 3 wickets with the score on 17, two in two balls falling to debutant Pat Mercer (2-26). Ian Holmes then also took two in two balls to leave Kelfield deep in trouble at 34-5. However Chris Walker held the innings together with a fine half century batting with the lower order while before finally falling victim to Ian Holmes who finished with 5-29 while Scott Clapham (2-20) kept things tight at the other end with ten overs of spin as Kelfield were all out for 113. The Bishopthorpe reply got off to a shaky start and they looked in a bit of trouble at 22-3 in the 8th over with Matt Walker (2-16) picking up two early wickets. However Ben Smith made an unbeaten half century, sharing partnerships of 43 with Mike Dale (27) and an unbeaten 50 partnership with Ian Holmes who finished 20no as they reached with 11 overs and six wickets to spare.
