The Ton picked up another welcome 3 points thanks to a 3-2 win against Hengrove. Alex Grimshaw & Dean Griffiths scored to give Bitton a 2-0 lead in a dominant first half before Hengrove came flying out the traps with 2 quick second half goals. A controversial Ibz Diallo penalty settled the tie midway through the second period.
Bitton had already gone close from a couple of dangerous deliveries before they took a 10th minute lead. Scott Brice met a corner well but saw his firm header superbly saved by stand in keeper Luke Crewe but Alex Grimshaw was quickest to the rebound and he smashed the ball home to give Bitton the lead. Former Bitton player Craig Parsons looked Hengroves main threat with his pace causing a few problems but there was never any final ball and it was Bitton who looked like scoring with Luke Bryan prominent and causing plenty of problems for the Hengrove defence. Kane Ingram came closest to a second goal when he saw his well struck free kick smash against the cross bar with Crewe beaten before some excellent defending from Hengrove captain Scott Lewis denied 3 Bitton players in the space of 5 minutes as it looked like they were clean on goal. Bitton did grab a second as McClennan did well to slip a pass into the Dean Griffiths and he fired low under the keeper for his sixth of the season. Hengrove put in a couple of dangerous set pieces and had to rely on Ben John to prevent parsons after his pace saw him clear but in the main Bitton were looking fairly comfortable
HT-Bitton 2-0
Bitton had been on top in the first period and could of possibly had a few more goals but all their hard work was undone within 10 minutes of the start of the second half. The game was brought to life on 50 minutes with a stunning strike from James Boyle who connected sweetly from 30 yards and saw the ball fly into the net. This seemed to lift the away side and they drew level only 5 minutes later. A mistake from Alex Grimshaw allowed the pacy young Brandon Feehely in and the fleet footed striker raced clear before calmly slotting past John in off the far post. Bitton were shell shocked and with Hengroves tails up they had to dig in for a few moments to stay in the game. Bitton eventually got back on the ball and a change in formation seemed to stifle Hengrove slightly and stop the dangerous Mark Fear pushing on from left back. Luke Bryan got in several times but couldn't quite find a finish and there were a couple of mild penalty appeals for fouls as Bitton forced a succession of free kicks in dangerous areas. There was then a little bit of handbags following a terrible challenge from Mancinni where he was lucky to only receive a yellow card. The tie was settled on 75 minutes as Bryan did well to get away from Brimble and the ref adjudged the slight pull from the Hengrove man to be worthy of a penalty despite the offence starting place outside of the box and claims from the Hengrove fans that it wasn't even a foul at all. As he did on Saturday Ibz Diallo stepped up and calmly slotted home to give Bitton the lead. In truth Bitton were fairly comfortable for the remainder of the game and wasted further chances from Groves,Lewis,Best and McClennan before Hengrove tried to muster a late flurry. They had a couple of free kicks that were dealt with and sub Jack Fillingham tried his luck from long range but Bitton held on for the 3 points.
