Bitton were on the end of a heavy 5-1 defeat as Street cliched the title in style in a game that was a lot closer than the score line suggests till the 55th minute red card of Joe McClennan. Despite both teams having played lots of games recently the tempo of the game particularly in the first half was very good
With several players once again missing Bitton started with a makeshift side and a threadbare bench but started the game in a positive fashion. The first half was fairly even with street creating the more clear cut chances but Bitton having more efforts but failing to hit the target on numerous occasions. Street should have opened the scoring on 10 minutes as O'Hare somehow hit the bar with an open goal in front of him. Bitton then had probably their best spell of the game as Bryan, Griffiths, McClennan, Groves and Ingram all had shots from the edge of the box and Josh Egan went close with a couple of free kicks. Street showed the sort of resilience that wins leagues as they dug in before coming back into the game with some probing runs from the dangerous Murray and Hynes & Brice had to be alert to block shots from O'Hare and Herrod. Powell was also called into action to make a smart save from a Murray header as Street looked dangerous. After two more efforts from Bryan & Groves Street then got the opening goal. A well delivered corner was met from close range by the head of McErlain who powered home with Murray claiming the final touch. The Ref lost control towards the end of the half as he started dishing out needless cards for both sides as a good half of football came to a close.
HT-Street 1-0 Bitton
After their good work in the opening period as has been the case on so many occasions this season Bitton shot themselves in the foot with 10 minutes of the restart. A mis-hit Tasker cross clipped the bar before O'Hare was allowed time and space to skip past 3 challenges and fire past stand in keeper Powell and open up a two goal cushion. Only moments later the game was effectively over as Joe McClennan reacted to a foul from a street player and the ref deemed the offence worthy of a stecond yellow and Bitton were down to 10 for the second time in 3 days. As champions do Street smelt blood and put the game to bed on the hour with a wonderful 30 yard drive from Tasker that flew into the net. Bitton to their credit dug in for a period and even managed to get 1 back as following a corner the ball dropped to Scott Brice who fired home. Any small glimmer of a comeback were gone only 3 minutes later as Street again scored when Brice missed the ball and after Powell had come flying out of his box Mawford set up O'Hare to score. Street then visibly started to slow the game and worked on recycling the ball through the midfield as the Bitton players began to tire. Bitton were denied a penalty as the ref awarded a free kick for a foul on Griffiths right on the edge of the box with the offence looking a good 2 yards inside the box. With 3 minutes left O'Hare completed his hat trick when he stabbed home from close range despite looking off side after more good work from the impressive Mawford.
Congratulation to Street and former manager Richard Fey on securing the title on the back of an incredible 26 match winning run
