For this week's Spotlight I spoke to Andrew Drain, whom is a gate volunteer at BRUFC. You may have seen him when attending a 1st XV Home Game. Andy introduces himself below:
"Hello everyone, my name is Andy. I’m 58, born and raised in Gravesend. I was a member of Gravesend Rugby Club for 5 years where I helped out on the gate and went to Twickenham to watch England & The Barbarians and Kent got in for £10 a ticket!
I then met and married Rosie 6 years ago and we moved into the Blackburn area.
I have been a member of Blackburn Rugby Club for three years and I volunteer on the gate with Louise at the first team matches. This has helped me massively gain confidence, which has allowed me to make new friendships in the club and have been made to feel really welcome. I love the sport and the atmosphere that it creates.
We love to go to Cornwall for 4 or 5 weeks each year, usually St Ives or Mevagissey, we would love to move here when the lottery numbers come up (fingers crossed!)
Another big hobby is being in the garden, where we have a pond full of Koi Carp and a nesting camera box to watch our friendly Robin, Blackbirds, Blue Tits & Pigeons.
I would like to thank Blackburn Rugby Club for welcoming me with open arms, and I can’t wait to see how our teams do in the future."
Us all at Blackburn Rugby Club would like to thank Andy for all his hard work at our 1st XV Home Games, we love to see your face down at the club every home game. We hope you have you around for many more years to come!
