Blackheath put up a spirited display against Roan & Lambethans 2nd XI but an inexperienced batting line up was exposed as soon as the 5s were inserted to bat having lost the toss. Richard Ward and Stuart Shanks made a steady start but in the face of some disciplined bowling, 32-2 at drinks put Roan on top. However, Arraf Hossein (35), promoted to number 5, combined well with Lyndon Williams (30*) to get the 5s up to 120-6. Some late hitting from Andrew Anderson also helped the cause.
Blackheath started the response well with stand-in 'keeper Ward taking a dazzling one handed catch in the 2nd over. The 5s attack of Azim Anwarul, Saidul Chowdhury, Andrew Watts and Shanks all toiled manfully to reduce the hosts to 70-5. However, Roan's number put played agressively, hitting 30*, to see Roan home. Shanks picked up three wickets and Chowdhury took two athletic catches. Next week is bye before trips to Bromley Common and Orpington.
