What the club expects of members playing adult cricket at Blackheath.

1. TELL THE CLUB WHETHER YOU ARE AVAILABLE

  • Put your availability status on Pitchero - 3 weeks ahead if you can. At a minimum, by Sunday evening, so that we can select teams on Monday.
  • If your plans change, update your availability status. Don’t let us think you are available when you aren’t.
  • Talk to your captain & give him plenty of notice if you will be missing a match.

Knowing everyone’s availability means we can work to get every member a game of cricket.

2. HONOUR YOUR COMMITMENTS

  • Once the team is published, please confirm your place promptly, and at least within 24 hours.
  • Once you have confirmed, you must not drop out unless there is a very, very good reason.
  • On match day, you must turn up on time – i.e. before the published meet time.
  • As a general rule, we expect that players will normally return to the Rectory Field after the match for at least one beverage. Socialising with teammates and opponents is one small part of representing the club.

An unreliable teammate is not worth having. Don’t be that guy.

3. WE PLAY FOR THE CLUB, NOT FOR A TEAM

  • The Captains and the Selection Committee sometimes have hard selection choices to make. We will not always get it right, but we try.
  • Any mistakes are made in the honest belief we are doing the best thing for the club.
  • Once you’ve made yourself available for a given date, you must play wherever you are picked.
  • In particular, any player who is dropped and refuses to play in the team immediately below, may be suspended from playing for the week after as well.

It doesn’t matter what team you are selected for – the badge on your cap says Blackheath. If you have a point to prove, prove it with bat and ball.

4. PAY YOUR MEMBERSHIP PROMPTLY

  • Pay your Season Ticket or PAYG membership on the Pitchero shop, by Sunday 7 May.
  • If PAYG, pay your match fees via Pitchero, within 7 days of the payment request.
  • Bursary scheme closes 30 April 2024.

We offer generous bursaries to those who are in financial difficulties, but people who seek to avoid paying altogether are not welcome.

5. HELP OUT WHERE YOU CAN

  • Volunteer at the Academy, or with a project at the Rectory.
  • Lend a hand with the juniors or the U21s development side.
  • Set aside a day to act as umpire or scorer.
  • Assist with club training sessions.
  • Help with club fundraising projects.

Don’t ask what the club can do for you. Ask what you can do to help the club.

6. PLAY HARD, PLAY FAIR, AND PLAY WITH A SMILE.

  • Give your best effort for your club and for your teammates on game day.
  • Support your teammates through good times and bad.
  • Treat the opposition with respect, whether you are winning or losing.
  • Make match officials feel welcome, and abide by their decisions.
  • Discrimination or abuse based on race, gender, sexual orientation or religion is unacceptable. We will not tolerate it within our club, or towards opponents.

Blackheath teams play to win, but we don’t need to win at all costs. Our reputation is more valuable than the result of one match.
