Yesterday Blackpool FC Ladies claimed all three points in their league fixture against Workington Reds Ladies. The Seasiders overcame a physical battle against a strong Workington side to win the game 2-0.
The first half saw plenty of opportunities for both teams, but it was Blackpool that opened the scoring through April Oldfield, with the attacking player calmly netting a well-placed penalty. Oldfield's goal proved to be the only difference as the two sides headed into the half time interval with Blackpool attaining a 1-0 lead.
Late in the second half, Blackpool midfielder Lauren Oatley extended Pool's lead and ensured the three points came back to the Fylde Coast. The Pool ace smashed a volley from long range past the Workington goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Workington's Naomi Foster was a stand-out player throughout the game, with the centre back displaying some excellent defending. This resulted in Foster claiming the Opposition Player of the Match award.
The victory moved Blackpool FC Ladies two points behind top of the table Haslingden Ladies, as the Seasiders approach their final three games of the season.
