Stones came out of the blocks showing real determination to show what they are capable of. Blackstones’ front two, Waumsley and Gargan chased and battled for every ball, backed up by Wilson, Walton, and Pike. The team maintained a high pace to the game and the visitors found it hard to get the ball out of their half. When they managed to punt the ball forward, Goodale, Parker-Meadows and Cox wrapped up the loose ball and played it forward. Just past the 15-minute mark Edmundson drove forward, into the visitor’s penalty box, and although he was being shepherded toward the bi-line the defender dived in and took his legs away. Goodale calmly stepped up and fired the penalty past the keeper. Stones had their tails up and never let Borrowash settle into the game and with half-time rapidly approaching, Wilson took control of the ball and raced through the midfield and up to the 18-yard box, drawing the defence he played a little sideways pass to Gargan, who worked himself a yard and buried the ball in the back of the net.
There was no let up after the break, within 3-minutes Wilson picked the ball up directly in front of goal, 20 yards out and fired it through the mass of defenders and into the net. Then 2 minutes later Edmundson battled amongst a crowd of players and struck the ball hard and low past the keeper. On the hour there was a bit of magic, Pilbeam, on for Gargan, ran across the 18-yard box, drawing the defender with him, then with a deft back heel played the ball back to Waumsley who struck the ball first time into the net. Quarter of an hour passed of unrelenting pressure on the visitor’s goal when Wilson scored his second of the match, fighting through a crowded defence to slot past the keeper. Walton sealed the game with an excellent solo run from just inside the half, outstrip the retreating defence and go one-on-one with the keeper to score Stones’ 7th of the afternoon. Borrowash nicked one back, but it was too little too late as Stones had total command of this match.
