This match certainly lived up to its reputation and from the off no holds were barred. With the game racing from end to end but it was Stones who broke the deadlock at the quarter hour mark when Bourne failed to clear a corner and Edmundson slid the ball under the keeper and into the net. Thirty minutes later Pike broke forward down the left and slipped the ball through to Waumsley, who drove the ball across the keeper and into the far side net.

The second half was fought with the same aggression and passion as the first.
