Blaina Blown Away

Blaenavon R.F.C. travelled to central park Blaina on Saturday, for the first fixture between the two clubs in well over twelve years on a windswept torrential raining afternoon,
Blaenavon opened the scoring after five minutes with a James Davis well aimed penalty, the new look Blaenavon backs looked sharp and were looking to run the ball at any opportunity with good service from seasoned scrum half Gareth Mark allowing outside half James Davis free to run the show behind. This with a superb back row of Blaenavon newcomer lee Wright along with Matthew Davis and Joe Cooke all three were outstanding, combining well and totally outplaying the Blaina back row to link up with the Blaenavon backs soon put lee Wright over for one of his three tries of the day, this tactic seem to work well and one that Blaina had no answer to which opened up the scoring for Full back Sam Saunders to add a try , and a fantastic combined effort of backs and forwards put Gareth Groves clear for a superb try to make it 34-0 to Blaenavon at half time,
The Blaenavon forwards came into their own second half as the torrential rain set in with good work in the scrum from Lewis John and Darren Walters and Captain Steve Howard in the front row and Paul Jones and Jamie Ireland winning excellent line out ball in the second row to keep the conveyor belt of tries going Daniel Davis scoring his hat trick of tries with well timed runs in the Blaina territory to open up their defence, and also link to give further tries to his brother James Davis who had two and Sam Saunders to score his second ,making it twelve tries in total, along with the six conversions by James Davis this completed the route and the final score ended
Blaenavon 75- Blaina 0.
Next week Blaenavon play Taff’s Well RFC at the recreation Ground Blaenavon K.O. 2-30pm.
