This was was a hotly anticipated re-match Blairgowrie played host to the Glenrothes side (the same side they lost 63-15 to in late September).
The game started at full pace with both sides making structured runs in to each other's halves. However strong running lines from Glenrothes saw them send their backs in to the Blairgowrie 22 which leading to a break through score after just 5 minutes. Spurred on by this Blairgowrie took the game back to the opposition eventually driving the game in to the Glenrothes half. From a scrum, close to the oppositions 22 No.8 Conall McIntyre executed a textbook No.8 pick and run through a broken Glenrothes back row to claim Blair's first try.
Glenrothes came back well as after a period of play that saw the action to and for between both 22's to run in again for a try. This second score again meant Blairgowrie needed to tighten up and take control of the ball, which they did resulting a fine run from James McCaig who managed to break a number of tackles and burst through for another Blairgowrie score. The pace of play did not let up and possession switched back and forth between both sides and Glenrothes were the ones to take advantage just before the half time whistle and run in another try.
The second half saw Blairgowrie come out with a renewed desire, without much attention on the score they pushed Glenrothes hard to grind out a number of good phases, resulting in Luke Cunningham running a great line and catching the Glenrothes forwards off guard, managing to dodge the remaining defenders and touch down under the posts, meaning James McCaig had a successful kick for the conversion. Blairgowrie's confidence grew and discipline was apparent throughout the rest of the match, knowing that if they stuck to the game plan and their drills they would take control of the remains of the game. Blairgowrie ran in one more try from James McCaig offest by another try for Glenrothes.
Final Score 22-15. A great perfomance and well deserved win for all the boys involved against a very well drilled side in Glenrothes, this performance gives Blairgowrie U16s a great deal of pride and confidence whilst also identifying all that they need to keep working hard on as they go on to a home match against Madras followed by an away match at Crieff, in the coming few weeks.
