Honours even in Local Derby

Acle and Blofield played out an entertaining end of season draw in front of a decent crowd at Bridewell Lane last night.

The visitors went in front early on when some neat interchange of play eventually saw Robbie Fryers bundle the ball in from short range to put the Beavers 1 up.

Blofield had not surprisingly started the stronger, given the fact that Acle had not played for three weeks but did not make their possession tell and as the half wore on, the home side came into the game with Drake looking the biggest threat.

Sure enough, around the half hour mark, Drake wriggled free in the Blofield box and his thunderous shot could only be palmed into the net by Stones for the equaliser.

The Beavers had to be indebted to keeper Stones on more than one occasion as the home side looked to take charge. A couple of great saves from Drake ensured the teams went in at half time level.

The second half was a much more even affair and both sides created a couple of half chances that were not taken.

With 15 minutes to go, Blofield once again took the lead as from Wright's corner, Medina rose unmarked to head home past Foreman.

This stung the home side into life and they lay siege on the visitors goal and only poor finishing and a string of excellent stops from Stones kept them at bay. However, Acle were not to be denied and it was that man Drake again, who crashed in another thunderbolt from the edge of the area to bring the scores level.

Both sides had chances to win it in the closing stages, in particular Oliver, who shot wide when well placed near the end but the final scoreline was probably the fair result, a view shared by many in the bar afterwards.

The football year concludes on Saturday with the final game of the Premier Division season being played at the Rec. Beccles Town are the visitors, kick off is 2.30pm.
