In a nailbiter where the watchword was tap and go Boar hung on to reach the County Shield Final in March during its 40th Year.
On a weekend when cards dominated the premiership for contact near the head this game had its fair share but not for the trend which could change the face of rugby. Deliberate knock forward was the stronger theme today but with some four yellows and soggy pitch it was probably post Xmas fitness which could have had a bigger impact on the outcome.
Wheatley who missed a sitter in front of the posts went on to score a seven pointer after a series of Boar errors, the additional points being more difficult than their missed penalty....fortunately.
Speedster and late call up Seb Perry reduced the deficit going in twice on the left wing and Blanchard who scored next to the posts settled earlier concerns. With a penalty each and at 20-10 things looked more comfortable for the Boar than the conditions of play.
A stop start affair throughout things looked comfortable until late on when the visitors scored from broken field play as Boar tired, a chance for the hosts to kick at goal was declined and the subsequent turnover made things unbearable from the sidelines as Wheatley camped in the Boar half....déjà vu?
Cue the final whistle.
