2024 Review

A review of 2024

Whilst a season runs from July to May we take a look back at the calendar year of 2024.

JAN

Due to bad storms and an unplayable pitch at the Boldon Colliery Welfare Ground, The Villa saw a number of games called off. The only game the side played this month was a trip to Billingham to take on Yarm & Eaglescliffe going down by a 6-2 scoreline.

FEB

The Villa managed a win and a draw in the month of February after a move to their temporary home of the Ford Hub, with a fine 3-0 win over Redcar Town on the score sheet that day was Mr Boldon - Aaron Williams.

MAR

With the Boldon Colliery Welfare Ground out of use and with games mounting up, the month of March saw The Villa play eight games with five of those on the artificial surface. The only victory at the Ford Hub was as the away side with a 4-3 win against Sunderland West End.

APR

If eight games in a month sounded a lot, April was the final month of the season and ten games had to be fitted in at the Ford Hub as the club completed 18 games in 58 days. Fatigue sure played a part as the side managed to pick up four draws.

MAY

The month of May finally saw a little bit of a rest for the players although within a month it would be the start of pre season.

JUNE

As the players returned for pre season the hope was for the pitch to be playable for the season as a huge loss of revenue set the club on the back foot.

JULY

The new season started with two away trips a narrow defeat to Sunderland RCA followed by a goalless draw at FC Hartlepool in midweek.

AUG

A really busy August saw The Villa play eight league games, a couple of decent results against the top sides including a draw in the derby away to Jarrow as that first victory of the season had alluded them

SEPT

A crushing defeat at the start of September saw Gary Henry and his coaching staff leave the club. A new management team of Dan Crooks and David Palmer we're installed and started with a 1-1 draw at home to Alnwick Town. The first victory of the season came on the 28th as a 2-0 victory was recorded over Billingham Synthonia thanks to goals from Jordan Reed and Kaue Foy.

OCT

October saw some tight games with The Villa narrowly coming out on the wrong end of a few results, however a fine 5-2 win over Darlington Town that included a brace from Jolas Sutherland and a 2-0 win at Chester Le Street Town saw an upturn in the clubs fortunes.

NOV

After a 1-0 loss to Thornaby against ten men, The Villa failed to get going at home to FC Hartlepool on a night where everything went wrong as the visitors hit double figures. A reaction is what was needed and a reaction is what the side produced with Robbie Gateshill netting a brace in a 5-1 win at Bedlington Terriers.

DEC

As the year of 2024 approached it's conclusion a local derby at home to Jarrow unfortunately went the way of the visitors and this was followed up by a narrow loss to Billingham Town. Heading into the Christmas period The Villa had some good news off the field with the new stand being put in place ahead of the boxing day game at home to Washington. A victory was important for the side and that was achieved with a 5-0 win with five different scorers finding the target. The final game of 2024 saw The Villa record back to back wins for the first time this season with a fine 4-1 victory over Grangetown Boys Club. A Liam Heywood brace helped in capping off a great end to 2024.

With all football clubs there is always ups and downs, twists and turns and there will be many more to come in 2025.

The club would like to thank all our sponsors, supporters, volunteers as well as the management team and players without your support the club would not be where we are today. We hope you have a great evening welcoming in the new year and we hope to see you all in 2025.
