Player In Focus: Adam Hutchinson on Boldon's season so far

Gavin Henderson24 Nov 2020 - 13:39

We caught up with Adam Hutchinson ahead of the return to league football for Boldon CA FC - and he's looking forward to getting going again.

You've been out with an injury you picked up just thirty seconds into the game against Windscale in October - just tell us about what happened during the game, the trip to the hospital afterwards, and your recovery from it…

AH: To be fair it was a good tackle but obviously frustrating and not ideal, however going into another lockdown has given me the opportunity to get back up to speed.

That'll mean that by the time games start up again, you'll have had a decent lay-off from action. I imagine you're itching to get back to playing proper games?

AH: Absolutely, I know all the boys are ready to get going again and keep the ball rolling.

How have you dealt with the break from football due to lockdown? Are you managing to keep yourself fit in preparation for the games starting back up?

AH: Like I said previously, it's provided me with the opportunity to get healthy again, and since getting back on my feet I’ve been at it everyday just to make sure I’m ready from the get go. Again, speaking to the boys they’re all keeping themselves ticking over, which could be the difference for us this season.

You signed for the club this season - tell us a little about where you have played previously…

AH: I spent a number of years out in the US, but to be honest I’ve hardly played over the last two seasons due to knee injuries. So, I’m hoping to get a good run of games and start getting back to the levels I know I’m capable of.

What would you say is your best role in the team? What do you enjoy doing on the pitch?

AH: I’ll leave that question to the coaches! I enjoy all aspects of playing, every game is slightly different and always requires the boys to be at it consistently.

Your initiation song got a bit of attention on social media - do you fancy yourself as a bit of a singer?

AH: Haha - to be fair, I just didn’t want to pay £5 for refusing to sing, but yeah you could say that.

The club has big ambitions. How confident are you of our ability to get promoted and then compete in the Northern League?

AH: I think it's important to not look past each game, especially with the current situation. The break will give teams the opportunity to regroup and focus on areas that may not have been working well prior to the break. With that in mind, it is important for us to pick up from where we left off, and make sure we are raring to go. Absolutely, we are more than capable of competing at the top end of the league above.

The club - players, management and staff - are all pulling in the same direction. What do you think it is that is making everything work currently?

AH: I think it's the habits of trying to be as professional as possible, which stems from how the club is currently being run from the top downwards. The management and staff are creating an environment that's enjoyable to be a part of, and are providing us with the platform to progress. From the players' perspective, no matter what level you play at I think a good dressing room is key for the teams that to want progress and win trophies, and that is exactly what we currently have at Boldon.

Have you got any personal targets you want to achieve this season?

AH: Yeah, hopefully go the rest of the season without picking up another injury.
