Match report Boothtown Terriers v Siddal 19th March 2016
The Terriers were worthy winners for the third time this season against Siddal. After dominating the first half they allowed Siddal to get back in the game and after an hour there was only 4 points in it. However they finished strongly with 3 excellent tries to complete the win which was never easy.
Unusually for the Terriers they got off to a good start and took the lead after 15 minutes when Graham Rowlinson took a short pass from Graham Charlesworth to burst through the Siddal tacklers and dive over the line for an unconverted try. The Terriers had to defend for a long time but with Reece Drahosz,Jordan O'Halloran and Ben Mallas tackling their hearts out they managed to stop Siddal scoring. Just before half time Mark Halford scored an unconverted try forcing his way over the line from acting halfback.
Siddal started the better in the second half when their kick off was knocked on and after concerted pressure moved the ball out wide for the winger to score in the corner. The terriers responded with strong drives from Craig Broadbent and Scott Bradley which took them deep into the Siddal half. The ball was then passed out to the right for Dale Brown to cross near the corner flag. Ben Walsh superbly converted to give the Terriers a 10 point cushion. However Siddal scored a converted try almost immediately to give the Terriers supporters a bit of concern. They needed have worried as the Terriers responded with some lovely rugby to score 3 converted tries in the last 20 minutes. The first when Charlesworth sped through a gap in the Siddal defence to race over the line. Then Halford scored his second taking a superb offload from Broadbent close to the line. The last try was the icing on the cake when after superb interpassing and backing up from Halford and Bradley resulted in Charlesworth scoring his second.
It was difficult to pick a man of the match. The Terriers pack were terrific throughout which made it easier for half backs Liam Walsh and Graham Charlesworth who were a constant threat to the Siddal defence. The clever use of the substitutes never gave the Siddal defence a chance to rest and as they tired in the last 20 minutes Walsh and Charlesworth took full advantage.
