Match report

Bottesford Town 1 Rossington Main 0
Bottesford Town completed their 2 games over the Festive Period with a well earn’t win over Rossington Main to claim a 6 point tally and so keep up their push for promotion.
The visitor’s started brightly forcing 2 corners in the opening minutes with Tom Johnston having to clear the line in the 6th minute. As the Birch Park outfit got into their stride, Danny Boulton brought out a good save from keeper Richard Watson in the 13th minute followed by Lee Ridley going close with his header attempt minutes later. Keeper Watson pulled out an excellent save to deny Craig Bridge in the 19th minute and from the resultant corner, Johnston should have done better with his header which ended wide of the target.
With the home team playing some good football, after a series of passes, Terry Barwick was provided with the opportunity to open the scoring but he too went wide of the target. A goal seemed to be inevitable but another excellent save from Watson to deny Wayne Graves super strike looked as though it was not going to be Bottesford’s day!! In the 30th minute, the Birch Park outfit were given a reminder that there were 2 teams in the game when Matthew Bradley got by his marker but failed to hit the target. A good run from Matty Steeper once again was brought to an end by a fine save from the keeper who was again on hand to deny Graves who picked up a pass from Bridge! As the game neared half-time, the visitor’s showed some mettle by winning 2 successive corners which were dealt with by keeper Leigh Herrick.
Bottesford were ‘quick off the mark’ from the restart, a free-kick just outside the box came to nothing followed by Steeper going wide of the target, but the pressure finally paid off when Barwick and Bridge linked up well to provide Graves the chance to fire the ball home in the 52nd minute.Despite the pressure from the home side, in the 60th minute, Lee Holmes picked up the ball from a long clearance but on this occasion the usually reliable striker squandered the chance to find the equaliser. With the nature of the game seeing the Birch Park outfit have the balance of play, further opportunities went begging for both teams with Holmes and Liam Cooper for the visitor’s finding keeper Herrick in fine form in the dying minutes.
