Match report

A new start to the season and a fine day to welcome our visitors Shere Punjab to our new home Rowheath. Shere came to us from a Division below and expectant of an upset. The game started brightly for both teams with BFC picking up the pace 5 minutes into the game. The initial back 5 of Ryan C, Dan, Ben R, Brad, and Reace looked comofrtable and dealt with the central attacks of Shere well, never really looking troubled. Ryans kicking and catching was excellent, and Reace and Brad played or cleared the ball accordingly. With some smart build up play involving Kieran, playing the ball into Jacobs feet, who twisted and turned getting a shop away early leaving the Shere GK standing and starting the scoring. Soon after, another ball played into feet saw Ryan B hacked down for Lewis to convert a penalty making it 2-0. Curtis who was lookig lively and causing problems with Lewis and Jacob, shot wide and wild, before Ted picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and smashed the ball home making it 3. Shere continued to press and a couple of smart saves and positioning from Ryan C stopped them, and from the back Brad, played a long ball to Curt on the wing who drilled a cross over for Lewis to challenge the GK who fumbled leaving Lewis a simple tap in for his second. Another ball played out wide and played in by Ryan B, saw another GK fumble with Jacob this time following up to make it 5. Shere who kept battling away, had some chances and one which we failed to deal with, had their  forward fire in to make it 5-1 which was carried into half-time. Comfortable going into the break. Soon after the re-start we made some changes. Jack came onto Reace who had a magnificent game, and Ben H on for Jacob who had terrorised the Shere defence. After the changes, we started to look a little raged and mishaped, with Shere throwing everything at us and causing some problems. The pressure told and they scored another to make it 5-2, but thankfully we crushed any thoughts of a comeback with some patient build-up with Kieran shooting low and hard to make it 6-2 and out of reach of the opposition. In reality, we should have been out of sight with us missing a hatful of chances which could have put us into double figures, but it wasnt to be today. A fine goal to end the scoring, with Ted, who had caused problems all game down the right, smashed over a cross for Ollie, who had came on in place of Kieran, to head home from close range to make it 7-2. So, all in all a good first performance given it was our firsr game as a new team. Our defence and GK looked more than solid and dealt with whatever was thrown at them. Midfield caused us a few problems, and we still need to think about shape and positioning. Our options up front are fantastic, and we could happily put 3 or 4 up front if feeling bold. Couple of us need to get fitter and think more about the game, but all in all, really pleased with the result, and more importantly the performance, which saw us through the first round of this competition. As usual, the support we recieved was second to none, and much apparecited by all. Onwards...C
