Boyne Hill U13s took the title of East Berkshire champions on Sunday, overcoming a yellow-clad Finchampstead by 8 wickets in the 11th over.
Captain Om won the toss and bowled. An extraordinary spell of pace bowling on a rock hard worn pitch wreaked havoc amongst the opposition, with Lachlan (4-1-12-3), Armaan (4-1-16-2), Mesum (2-0-7-1) and Rohan (3-0-11-1) all refusing to allow their opponents to build a partnership, and leg spinner Liam (2-0-6-1) using the conditions beautifully.
They were assisted with great energy and aptitude in the field, reducing Finch to 43-8 before a late surge and some sloppiness allowed a projected score of 60 to creep to a twitchy 91.
Openers Liam (24) and Lachlan (15) had to deal with incessant chatter from a keeper who ought to let his glove-work do the talking, but Armaan was not to be distracted from his task, with a brilliantly paced, disciplined 31*, working hard with Om (14*) to get the game done in the 11th over, and line up a Berkshire County final clash with Wokingham at Purley-on-Thames next Friday 28th June.
This cup run started back in April and we have beaten Farnham Royal, Binfield, White Waltham, Littlewick Green and now Finchampstead.
All club members and guests are welcome to come and cheer the side on at P-o-T as they strive to become County champions and represent Berkshire in the national competition.
