Despite a large number of absentees, Braishfield turned in a fine battling display to defeat a useful looking Alderbury side at the Rec last Saturday afternoon.



Once again, Braishfield found themselves ravaged by injuries and holidays with manager Jon Cook forced to play a number of players out of position with Club Secretary Lee Whitelock as the solitary substitute. However, despite this, in good conditions they match their visitors well during a close first half. Alderbury, who are top of the division below with a 100% record looked lively going forward but Braishfield defended well, with emergency centre half Dan Collins and full back Liam Dibden (promoted from the Reserves) both having fine games. The visitors had the best chance, when a good cross found an unmarked striker who then blazed wildly over when well placed. As time wore on, Braishfield grew in confidence and created a few chances themselves, Max Beebe went close whilst Matt Pile’s header drew a fine fingertip save from the goalkeeper.



Kicking down the slope, Braishfield raised their game during the second half and enjoyed a good spell of pressure. Ian David and Andy Clark both linked up well to create some good opportunities whilst Rob Clamp (another promoted from the Reserves) had a fine game in central midfield, but despite all this good play the elusive final touch evaded   them. Finally in the 70th minute the decisive breakthrough arrived when the ever industrious Paul Tanner made a dashing run down the left winger, and from an acute angle fired in a low cross-C*M shot that fooled the visitors ‘keeper to creep in at the far post. The sizeable crowd were now treated to a pulsating cup-tie as Alderbury hit back strongly – once again Braishfield defended stubbornly, mostly restricting the visitors to hopeful long shots. The final stages saw Braishfield have chances to extend their lead but they had done enough to clinch a hard earnt but vital     victory.
