Corries through to Quarter Finals

Radnorshire Cup Round 1
Radnor Valley 2-3 Brecon Corries (Sunday 22nd September 2019)

Just 24 hours after their 0-5 win at Llandrindod, the Corries were back in action away at Radnor Valley in the Radnorshire Cup 1st Round. With Radnor Valley playing 2 Tiers above the Corries in the Spar Mid Wales League Division 1, it was expected to be a tough afternoon for the visiting side. But the Corries had the majority of possession and chances at goal in the opening half and really should have put the game to bed. Some outstanding goalkeeping and wasteful finishing kept the game closer than it should have been, and a Joel Evans goal after half an hour was all that separated the 2 teams at the break.

The 2nd half was a much different affair. Radnor Valley showed why they are 2 leagues above the Corries and took a 2-1 lead with successive goals less than 10 minutes into the half. They were now the dominant team and were making the Corries look very average and losing their way. In the opening 20 minutes of the 2nd half the Corries were under the cosh and looking likely to crash out of the competition before it really got started. But a Jordan Baker goal, the Corries’ 100th of the season already, seemed to spark the Corries back into action and the crowd were now witnessing a good old cup tie. Just minutes later, Craig Evans put the Corries back into the lead, much to the dismay of the home supporters.

The Corries dug deep, showed some real character and desire, and saw the game out to advance to the next round of the cup.
