Mid Wales League (South)
Brecon Corries 7-0 Penybont
The Corries consolidated their lead at the top of the Mid Wales League (South) with a 7-0 win over Penybont. After the Radnor Cup heroics at Radnor Valley last weekend it was back to league duties, and it took less than 60 seconds for last week’s winning goal scorer, Craig Evans, to continue his rich run of scoring by finishing off a very good Corries build up. And just 10 minutes later Craig Evans had doubled the lead to make it 2-0 and leave Penybont with a mountain to climb.
It wasn’t quite one way traffic from then on. Penybont showed some danger on the break and kept Corries keeper, Brian Keddle, busy. But just after half an hour, Luke Roughley found the back of the net to keep it comfortable for the Corries at 3-0.
The Corries looked to up the tempo for the 2nd half and use their power, speed and structured play to finish off the visitors. Paul Keddle was almost unplayable down the Corries left, Luke Roughley and Gareth Pugh dominating the centre of midfield, and of course Joel Evans upfront, were too much for the visitors. 3 goals in 30 minutes for Joel Evans made it 6-0 going into the final minutes, and just before the ref could blow for full time, another Evans got on the score sheet, this time it was Corries Captain, Dale Evans, who found the back of the net making it 7-0 to the Corries.
The Corries are back in action next Saturday (5th October) when they make the short journey to visit Hay St Mary’s Reserves, in what will be a very entertaining local derby.
