Mid Wales League (South)
Brecon Northcote 0-8 Brecon Corries (Saturday 2nd November)
The Corries opened up an 11-point lead at the top of the Mid Wales League (South) with a comprehensive win over Brecon rivals Northcote. In very difficult playing conditions, it was the Corries that played all of the football, comfortably controlling territory and possession all game.
2 goals from Joel Evans within the opening 20 mins of the game set the Corries on their way and took Joel Evans to 50 goals for the season already, and we’re still only in November. Paul Keddle grabbed a goal on the half hour mark and just minutes later Craig Evans made it 4-0 to the visitors and a comfortable lead going into the break.
It took just 10 mins after the restart for the Corries to find the net again, that man Craig Evans again. Much has been made of the Corries ruthlessness in front of goal this season, scoring 138 goals in all competitions so far this season, but just as impressive is the defence that has conceded just 1 goal in 11 league games. At the heart of that has been the very impressive Jordan Baker and his defensive hard work was rewarded with a goal on the hour mark.
The Corries midfield generals of Gav Perry and Luke Roughley were enjoying an armchair ride all game, easily controlling the play and setting up all the Corries’ attack. But it was arguably Brecon’s finest footballing products, Paul Keddle, that shone out on a gloomy autumn afternoon and he wrapped up his hat-trick with 2 more goals late on in the game, sealing an 8-0 win for the Corries.
