Lex took an early lead on 4 minutes, as George Baxter shot over the keeper for them to take an early lead, Alex DeRosa narrowly unable to reach a ball from Jack Honey being the best early chance before Jack Honey had a couple of chances, and Harry Massey shot wide as Lex grew into the game.
On 29 minutes Brickfield finally got the breakthrough though and equalised through Tom James, before a minute later taking the lead, as Brickie break quickly and Jack Honey runs through the Lex defence and finished powerfully. And Brickfield made it 3-1 before half time, a collector’s item as Tom James scored a header from a Jamie Samuels corner.
Jamie Samuels was on hand again for Brickie to make it 4 just 3 minutes into the second half, as he plays a great ball In from a corner right onto the head of Jack Honey who doesn’t need to move and just places it home. Lex though continued to be dangerous, mainly through the powerful Seb Kidd, and he got his first of the game on 57 minutes to make it 4-2. Soon after though Brickie regained their 3 goal advantage, as Jack Honey completed his hattrick, as he gets tackled as he is about to shoot, re-intercepts the balls and on the half turn buries the ball in the bottom corner. He continued to be a menace, as the Lex keeper saved another attempt before he scored his fourth, being played in by Max Northall after Charlie Samuels played in Max.
Lex continued to push hard, and scored their third on 73 minutes after James Gibney scored a direct free kick, before Jack Honey again buzzed into the box on 76 minutes and won a penalty. Jamie Samuels wanted to get on the scoresheet, and stepped up confidently before smashing his penalty on the crossbar. Luckily for Samuels’s blushes, Callum MacFarlane was able to finish the rebound in the bottom corner.
The game was, like yesterday, becoming more open as the teams tired as the effects of 8 months of no games continue to affect pre season, and while Adam Jones was there to rescue Brickie with a good save, another late challenge from Lex saw Charlie Samuels have a free kick from 25-30 yards out. It was a great floating effort, but like his brother, he also smashed against the crossbar! In the final few minutes though, the hard working Seb Kidd for Lex got his second as he was played in one on one against Adam Jones leaving him helpless for the score to finish 7-4 to Brickie.
Two great workouts and two great strong sides from Lex, thanks to the club for all their help in getting the games on.
