The two goalscorers for Brickfield In today’s game were at it from the start, as Harry Massey passed to Jack Honey who hit the post in the opening few minutes. However, even though Brickie were doing the majority of the attacking, it was Coedpoeth who took the lead, as Brickfield failed to clear leaving goalkeeper Adam Jones no chance to stop Owen Slawson finishing from close range. Max Northall was causing Coedy a lot of problems down the left wing though, and on 27 minutes Brickfield equalised, Max Northall’s shot being cleared only to the feet of Jack Honey who scored the rebound.
The second 30 saw Brickfield move up a gear and take the game to Coedpoeth, Harry Massey’s cross across the face of goal early in the half narrowly missed by both Dylan and Jack Honey, while Aaron Jones also shot wide. Brickfield took the lead on 50 minutes, as Dylan Honey played a deep cross into Harry Massey to finish from close range. Harry had another great chance minutes later, after being played in from Max Northall, but got his second on 54 minutes, after being played in by Dan Davies, before turning skillfully and shooting into the top corner, with the Coedpoeth keeper helpless to stop it going in the back of the net. Before the end of the second 30 it was 4-1, as Jack Honey received a loose ball and shot powerfully into the top far corner.
With this being the first match for both squads for eight months, the third 30 minutes was played at a slower tempo to the first two understandably, Iwan Evans having the only chance of note in the opening minutes of the half, shooting well wide. However, it was Jack Honey, pushing for his hattrick who had the best chances of the third half, first shaving the post after being played in by Dan Davies, and secondly shooting straight at the Coedy keeper when through one on one. The last real chance of the game though fell to Charlie Samuels, who shot wide after winning a free kick.
Most of our senior squad received their first runout of the season either Saturday or Suday, and thanks to Coedpoeth United for following the COVID protocol and bringing two squads to Clywedog Park. We host another double header next weekend as we take on two squads from Lex.
