Bridgnorth Under 12s braved the elements to play their Central Venue Hockey League fixtures at St Georges, Telford. After a delayed start, Bridgnorth were looking forward to taking on both Ludlow and Shrewsbury.
Last time out, the Blues had a comfortable win over a young Ludlow side and were hoping for more of the same in this fixture. Solid defensive performances from Callum Hill and Luke Hadley ensured that the Bridgnorth goal was hardly threaten but Ludlow also had a strong defence, making it difficult to break through. However, excellent midfield build-up from Charlie Ward and Elliot Fellows found the key to unlocking the Ludlow backline, setting up three well taken goals from Owen Barker (1) and Ben Lee (2).
The second and final game of the day came in the form of Shrewsbury Pumas – a new addition to the team. It was to be a difficult game, with hard fought battles all across the pitch. Once again, great defensive work ensured the scores stayed level until Henry Dwane finally made the break through with a fast free hit, which saw him dribble through the defence and slot it into the corner of the goal; making it 1-0 to the Blues. Despite the efforts of the team, the defence was breached for the first time that day. With little time to recover and push forward for a winner, Bridgnorth had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
