Brigg Town are the Winners of the Ian "Chalkie" Whyte Memorial Trophy after a 3-2 win against local rivals Bottesford Town. The trophy was set up in memory of the great man after he passed away last year.
Not only did Chalkie serve both Brigg and Bottesford during various spells, he also carved a successful career as a coach and mentor to many within the Professional game, with the likes of Lincoln City and Scunthorpe United.
Brigg went behind after just 2 minutes from a free kick floated into the box, which fell to Hashlee Cranidge. Brigg then settled into the game and after already having one free kick saved by their keeper (ex Brigg Declan Jordan) Martin Pembleton stepped up and slotted home after 21 mins, and then again on 39 mins.
Just after this Ryan Short was shown a straight Red - leaving Brigg going in at half time 2-1 up, but down to 10 men.
2nd half was an even affair, both sides huffed and puffed, then Jack Bowskin managed to put the ball in his own net. Score now 2-2!
Just 8 minutes later the game was sealed by a great strike from outisde the box by Stephen McCarron. Great first touch set it up, then smashed past Jordan, making the scoreline 3-2 to Brigg, and securing the win in what was an entertaining game.
