Brighouse Cricket Club match reports for Saturday 27th August 2016.
BCC vrs Methley CC at Russell Way.
With high blue sky's and sunshine for the start of the game it seemed incongruous that players and officials alike were checking weather Apps for the conditions to expect throughout the afternoon. Their concerns were justified as swirls of rain drifted in in varying degrees of intensity.
Play continued throughout, Brighouse who had lost the toss had to grind out a total for Methley to hopefully respond to.
In the circumstances experienced cool heads were required to establish a momentum for the team to sign into. Aleem and Wajid opened, playing well against a strong Methley opening attack of Raz and Walmsley (M). The partnership had achieved 19 with both batsmen looking good. Aleem was adjudged LBW off Walmsley. Waite removed Jayan Mistry comprehensively bowled for 4.
Wajid had worked four 4's in his 24 Walmsley (E) nipped one in, a brief touch, a keepers catch for Luke Billingham successfully collected, to have the hosts at 3/70.
A particularly heavy shower had the players off the field with n early tea called to allow the rain to stop and the wicket to be uncovered again.
Brighouse now knowing that with the delays the rules state that each side had to have equal overs for a result to stand determined to bat on to the 150 mark at least to gain batting points.
Nine down after 46 overs 153 the score the first objective had been achieved as the rain came back to conclude play giving Methley no opportunity of even an attempt at the score.
The star of the innings being young Awaise Hussain with a brilliant 70 in the conditions. Six 4's with two 6's in a display of 82 balls of concentrated batting. His one lapse let in Raz who removed a potential 100 by bowling the young man.
Brighouse CC 2nds sat out another weekend due to Windhill CC's late withdrawal from the competition prior to the start of the season.
