It is with great personal sadness that we announce the passing of friend, former club President, second team cricket Captain, player and member Mr. Alan Shaw.
We are sure that all members will join us in sending our sincere condolences to his family.
Alan came to the club with iconic steward Alan Gilliver who he had been instrumental in persuading to take on the Stewardsposition, Groundsman and player roles.
Alan and his family were inspirational in the revitalisation of the social and playing standards of the club.
Taking over as President Alan steered the club into a more stable position with friend and Treasurer Mr. Dennis Nicholson. .
The Brighouse Rangers ARLC reformed in his tenureship. Restarting the famous Brighouse club that continues to this day.
An unenviable duty on a historical day as Brighouse Cricket Club beat the mighty Scarborough Cricket Club (incld'ing Brian Close) in a national cup competition, was to ask the Scarborough President to leave the club due to his vigorous protest at the result. Brighouse were eventually disqualified from the competition.
Alan wrote to the members to advise them of the decision from Lords while apologising for the outcome that despite our protests were not heeded.
Alan eventually retired as President and a club member. He remained interested in all aspects of the club through friends and family plus rare visits to see a game or former colleagues.
RIP Alan and thankyou.
