Prolific Striker Aaron 'Azza' Condon Joins Regent

Aaron Condon signs for Brightlingsea Regent from coastal neighbours FC Clacton, the former Clacton skipper score an impressive 32 goals this season.

RECORD-BREAKING FC Clacton skipper Aaron Condon has joined Ryman League neighbours Brightlingsea Regent.

The striker finished last season with 32 goals, which set a new club record in terms of seasonal tally, eclipsing Sean Hillier's total of 29 set in the 2008/09 campaign.

In the process, Condon also took his overall club haul past 100 goals.

He deservedly ended up walking away with the club’s manager, players' and supporters' (home and away) end-of-season prizes.

Now he has been snapped up by Ryman League division north rivals Regent, who have finished just outside the play-off zone in each of the last two seasons.

“It was a huge decision to make,” said Condon, who previously had spells at Needham Market and Maldon and Tiptree.

“Clacton are my home-town club and I feel very strongly about the club.

“We had such a great season, finishing in a highest-ever position of tenth, and it’s hard to leave.

“But at the same time, I’m really excited about this opportunity at Brightlingsea.

“After having the season I had, I feel I deserve another crack at Ryman League football.

“It’s a step up and a chance to show I can score goals at a higher level.

“The fact it’s on the doorstep is an added bonus and I can’t wait to get started.”

Condon became FC Clacton’s highest-ever scorer when he netted his 87th goal against Whitton United in January.

Arguably the highlight of his time in a Seasiders shirt was during the club’s 2013/14 FA Cup run, when he scored eight goals in five appearances, including a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Brentwood Town.

He then followed it up by scoring both goals in a 2-1 replay victory against the Ryman League side.

Condon’s departure is another blow for Clacton, who are on the lookout for a new manager following David Coyle’s resignation on Thursday.

Meanwhile, former Clacton player Jake Clowsley has followed the likes of Phil Kelly and Ricky Griggs in signing a new contract at Brightlingsea.
