A changed and reshaped Barbarians side failed to build on their encouraging recent form as they fell to defeat at the hands of Barton Hill.
The home side had to make a number of changes due to player availability but still put in a creditable performance against a much larger visiting side.
From the first whistle the visitors used their big runners to try and punch holes in the Barbs midfield, but some solid defence kept Barton Hill at bay.
The contact areas were brutal and both sides held nothing back, with a Blustery wind blowing across the pitch, both teams chose primarily to keep the ball in hand which resulted in a very punishing, physical game.
After a period of pressure Barton Hill went over for the games first and deserved try, after the first score the game settled down into a pattern of close forward driving by the visitors and counter attacking by the Barbarians side.
After a couple of ventures into the visitors 22 the home side had a chance to reduce the score line with a penalty kick but were unsuccessful.
After a couple of attacks by both sides which came to nothing Barton hill found themselves on the Barbs try line and were odds on the score but for a turnover by Daniel Chidgey, from the clearing kick behind the posts a Barton hill player managed to get a nail to the ball and from the resulting charge down the ball fell straight into a Barton hills players clutches and he flopped over the line to take the score to 0-10.
From the restart the visitors gave away a penalty for something, not sure what but a penalty all the same, the home side took the option of a kick to touch and from the resulting driving lineout scrum half Phil Maclean went over for the Barbs first try which was duly converted by Billy McGowan.
The barbs went at the visitor’s defence and were almost rewarded for their efforts when after a backs move which didn’t result in a scrum, centre Craig Spiller crashed through, around and over a couple of Barton Hill players only to be held up over the try line.
Half time 7-10
The second half kicked off and with the Barbs still enjoying their half time drinks and chatting about the weather the Barton Hill number 8 ran around the Barbs players to crash over to take the score to 7-17.
After a change in the Barbs pack when hooker Lee Bray went off and big old Jim Fryer who hasn’t played in over 2 seasons and looked less than impressed with the impending scrums against the big old happy smiling Barton tighthead came on this made me very happy purely just because of the disappointed look on his face.
The game itself to and froed between both sides 22 before a wayward kick by a Barton hill player allowed full back Kyran Gitsham to dot down under the posts to take the score to 14-17.
The Barbarians went for the score that would take them into the lead and though they had gone ahead on the scoreboard when Phil MacLean thought he had gone over for his second try of the match, but the referee had other idea’s and after consulting the video ref the score was chalked off as the ball had gone forward of a Barbs player. And to add insult to injury Barton Hill went the other end of the field and scored to take the score to 14-22.
The home side took the score back to 17-22 when they were awarded a kickable penalty.
With the game petering out the Barbs were awarded a penalty which they decided to run and after making a few hard yards tighthead Chad Weyman was tackled into touch and the match was over.
Final Score 17-22
No Snickers moments this week.

As always the report may be wrong, I might have made a bit up or over exaggerated a few things but its difficult when your in the pack to remeber what actually happened.
