Once upon a time in Brixton a former footballing icon decided that he wanted to help out the community and also give something back to the people. Once it came apparent that this legendary player was looking for a football club there was only one choice he could make and he didn't disappoint News that former Dutch football superstar Edgar Davids, who has played for the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Ajax to name a few was training the infamous Sunday League side Brixton United spread around the Metropolitan Sunday League like wild fire. Brixton United, who have previously won the treble (the only club in the entire division to do so) are the most decorated club in the league. Barcelona well we all know about them but until now have they never had anything in common with south London until Edgar came knocking on the door. The club have been struggling this season so it was a welcome boost for the players and coaching staff. From the moment he met the manager Caz Bailey it was clear to see he took a liking to the area and the club set up. He vowed to help in every which he could and while it was a dream come true at the time, most players never believed he would actually do it. Prior to taking the training session Davids had turned up the previous week unannounced when Brixton United travelled to opponents Eltham Town for a league fixture. Edgar Davids amazed the Eltham crowd with his appearance and there was even rumour that Edgar was going to register and play a few games for the Brixton too but that never came to light. The following week the training session took place and Sky Sports News caught wind of this and turned up unexpectedly at Brixton Recreation Centre and filmed the session. Edgar displayed so much skills, ball control and quick feet and you could clearly see why this guy was once the best defensive midfield in the world. Unfortunately Sky never showed the whole session but they did a great job and this is the final cut which went on air in December 2012. Enjoy.
