Following last week’s impressive victory against Dalkeith in a game that saw the side at one stage reduced to 11 players in a yellow card frenzy, all roads lead to the Muckle Toon in what promises to be another tough encounter for the Wardie side.
Last season saw the sides share a win apiece, Broughton enjoying a 43-33 win at home whilst Saturday’s hosts were to come out on top at Milntown in the reverse fixture 37-21.
The overall head to head between the Clubs is a limited one, seeing only six matches played. It could have been closer to double figures had the three attempts to meet during 1967-70 taken place however the winter weather put paid to those.
It wasn’t until 1971 that a fixture was fulfilled which ended in a 25-6 win for the Langholm in what was their Centenary year.
It took 44 years to meet again, this time in competitive action. Following their drop from East 1, Langholm recorded one of only four victories that season against Broughton (15-5 at home), with the reverse fixture at Wardie won once again by the home side (38-5).
Just the one game took place in the restructured East 2 the following season, with Broughton coming out on top 52-10 en route to securing the Title.
Despite some challenging times in recent years, Langholm rallied and in 2021, the Club celebrated their 150th anniversary – a fantastic achievement.
Kick-off at Milntown is 3.00pm.
