Captains for 2018 revealed

Captains for 2018 revealed

Ryan Airey1 Feb 2018 - 14:23

Is it a tall order for Big Ben?

The annual Burneside senior players meeting was held on Friday evening at the club, with a healthy turnout of players, a few topics were discussed. The main item up for discussion as captains and vice captains for the upcoming season. Ben Leacock was proposed and duly appointed as 1st team captain with the full support of the club, with Lee Tattersall stepping down from the rigours of captaincy, to become Vice captain, a role that should mean he is able to focus on his cricket more. Ben Leacock said "He was humbled and honoured to be first team captain, knowing that he had the backing of the lads behind him". Probably the toughest job in the club, second team captain, went to Steve Huggonson. This will be his second stint as captain and should prove to be a more challenging one. Since handing over the reins a few seasons ago, we have lost one or two players and struggled for a settled side recently. But with one or two players returning, a few new faces amongst the ranks and a lower division, results should be more positive. Ian Morris was proposed as second team captain and was also voted in by all. A Burneside lad, Ian has played for the club on and off for many years now and was said to be quite touched by the support he received from the players.
The Westmorland League had asked all member clubs if they would like to join with another club to form a team to enter this seasons Hackney & Leigh Cup. This was put to those at the meeting and it was felt we would be OK to enter a competitive team ourselves rather than merge with another. BCC has also entered the National Village Knockout Cup again. This cup has provided us with some memorable matches and especially when travelling away from home on Tug's Tours!
We are in the process of booking some senior and junior indoor nets at Dallams new sportshall, Milnthorpe on Sundays, 4pm til 6pm. Please keep an eye out for confirmation of this in the next few days.
Sadly the contractor for the new net practice facility has decided they don't want to build the nets at the moment, having been assured many times they'd be built before 2017 ended. The reason now given its too cold! I should have known not to get a bunch of southern softies to do it! I should have gone with Stuart Canvas from Warrington, who I would have imagined are more acclimatised to the local weather conditions, than the contractors from Northampton!
The clubs Annual General Meeting is to be held on Tuesday the 20th of February at the club at 8pm.
