Major changes were voted for by a two thirds majority at this years Junior league AGM at Warton cricket club on Monday evening. 14 votes to 7 which was just enough to pass the proposal through, meant that their will now be an under 11's, 13's, 15's and 18's league. Every club also had the option to enter their under 11's into a hard ball or soft ball league. Burneside elected to enter a team in the soft ball format with Netherfield some might say boldly deciding to enter 3 teams in just the hard ball league.
Some coaches felt that kids of that age should be playing with the traditional corky by 10 years old. Many others felt that if a child was that good and competent he would be getting hard ball competition in the age group above at the same club anyway, and that the soft ball format was a great platform to introduce kids to cricket on.
It was also adopted that a new rule in the under 13's that no balls and wides would be 2 extra runs instead of an extra ball.
It used to be that the under 16's fixtures were on Wednesdays, with the changes to the age groups, it was decided that the under 18's would now be the age group to play on a Wednesday with the other age groups to play on various evenings throughout the first half of the summer.
