U14s @Kirby Lonsdale Festival!

Onto the Coach and on arrival at Kirkby tents were put up and then into the club for our much needed food, all part of the weekend package. Meeting up with a few friendly faces from other clubs and then off to bed ready for the full day of rugby on Saturday.

Saturday came and Burnley were pooled in with Sedgley Park, Leigh, North Ribblesdale & Manchester. With 20 plus clubs entered at Under 14's it was to be a great day of rugby union.

Sedgley were our first opposition and with 13 players available for 7's Rugby it was important that all the lads got a run in this game, some good pace was show by Logan Cain & Tom Wooller, unfortunately Burnley third speedster took a hit and with a bang to head Seb Burton day of rugby was over, but his support was still there. Park took the win.

Second up and it was late arrivels Manchester who were straight off the bus, but played really well and unfortunately showed Burnley a lesson in 7's rugby as they moved the ball at will, but also put some really big hits in on Burnleys big ball carriers and Manchester took the win ( from here they continued to defeat everyone and Manchester won the main final ).

Third up it was Noth Ribblesdale and this game was a close affair and tries were scored, and strong runs by all changed Burnley approach direct a great option, but again the opposition just got them extra tries.

The final match before lunch and it was the closest of the morning session, as Leigh just beat us 15 or 17 - 10, what was good to see in this contest was even though he was getting caught Logan showed his development with his power to keep going and his ball presentation which will help him when back on the fifteen a side pitch. Also new lad Liam Finegan who developed through the day kept team moving forward.

Time for Chicken & Chips now........

After lunch and the side were then placed in trophy, - like I said earlier Manchester won the main final, Leigh played Leigh so as a club we won the 2nd one & North Ribblesdale took a final and we secured the final one.

We played the Scottish guest side Strathclyde ( I hope that's the right Strath....) and the lads finally played to their full potential, with tries via Louie Nutter & Ben Uttley, apologies if anyone else scored!

So to Burnleys sixth and final game of the day, and Tarleton were to be their opposition, we moved pitches so Parents picked up the chairs and we moved over and the game got underway. Both sides were very similar and Tarleton scored first , but then Logan pace shown has he sprinted down the Touch line and scored. The Burnley scored again, via Ben Uttley going into half time in the lead. Then Tarleton knocked on and Burnley player sprinted away and everyone thought they were now 2 clear, unfortunately the referee did not play advantage and therefore Burnley had to defend hard for last couple of minutes to take the match and lift the fourth trophy on offer.

A great day of rugby, hoping all the lads who got injured from other clubs recover well, and Burnley will see other clubs for fifteen a side matches next season and at more festivals like this, great organisation and all from Burnley enjoyed the experience playing and camping.

Sunday arrived home, now for a rugby break and time for the team to re charge their Rugby batteries, but stay fit and active lads, great to see even when no rugby occurring over the weekend the lads were enjoying everyone's company and were not playing on their consoles.

Cheers Simon, I've thoroughly enjoyed this season working with this team, bring on 2019/20.
