Richmond v Hawcoat Park - 26.04.14

Chris Clandon23 Apr 2014 - 09:24

Yellows look to continue good run!

This coming Saturday see’s Richmond 1st team at home to Hawcoat Park. The Cumbrians hailing from Barrow in Furness will make the long journey South for what will be 5th v 7th and the 3rd meeting of the season between the 2 sides.
The first meeting of the teams came in November when Richmond travelled to Barrow in the Presidents Cup and despite only having 12 men managed to come away with a well-earned 2.1 victory with 2 goals coming from Chris Andrews.
The second meeting at the Barrow Club came on 1st February and the Burscough side travelled up to Barrow on a filthy afternoon weather wise having been very surprised the game was called on in the first place.
The conditions on the day where some of the worst experienced in many years and the Yellows went down to, what is to date, their one and only defeat in the lakes in the 3 years since joining the West Lancs League by 3 goals to 2, scorers for Richmond that day where Mike Edwards and Lee Berrie.
Richmond have been struggling of late for numbers as injuries at the club have taken their toll accompanied with 3 lads starting cricket last weekend the first team travelled to Furness and Ambleside with the bare 11. Richmond are hoping to have Taylor & Edwards back from injury this weekend and with the reserves campaign now being finished will have a full 14 to pick from.
Despite the player issues last weekend Richmond recorded 2 fine away wins to stop the rot of 3 losses on the spin.
The game will play a huge part in the middle order standings come the end of the season as from 4th to 10th position only 8 points is the difference.
Richmond are looking to finish the season on a high and strive for 4th spot and a result similar to last season’s corresponding game would be most welcome as the Yellows beat Hawcoat 6.0 in October 12 with goals from Phil Simpson 2, Mike Mason, Andrew Caine 2 and Scotty Taylor. The Cumbrians are a far better outfit now and a real tough game is expected.
The Club room will be open on Saturday and Joyce will be selling a range of refreshments. If you can get along to support the lads please do so, kick off is 3pm.
