Experienced defender Mark Dodds, Grant Stewart and former County player Nyall Gray become Young Guns

New Look Young Guns

It’s a new season and a new challenge set for new look Caerau. With Luke Cooper, Tyrrell Webbe, Louis Gerrard, Curtis Hutson, Laurent Mondo and a few others leaving the 2015/16 squad, there is a tough challenge set upon manager Nana Baah and assistant Craig Sampson.
Replacing players of this quality will always be difficult, but the club seem to have unearthed some young talents and experienced players.

Coming into the squad are players from last season’s U19’s who are Sam Cawley and Sam Williams. Both players featured in the last 10 odd fixtures including games against title favourites Barry Town and promoted Cardiff Met. Both players excite the club and we look forward to seeing them this season.

An interesting singing by Baah is young Nyall Gray. A 2014/15 Newport County scholar who is regaining his confidence football. “Nyall is a very gifted player and there is no doubt about that. The challenge is to help Nyall develop his understanding of the game further so he can get the opportunity to play at a higher level” Said Baah.

The club is pleased to announce that the following players from the 2015/16 squad have decided to stay on board.
Scott James, Alex Smith, Lewis Hydes, Jerome Maynard, Ben Burns, Huw Corne, Lloyd Toghill, Callum Bateman, Jamal Roberts, Andrew Smith, Rameer Outlaw and Joseph Shephard.
Baah stated “Don’t ask me how but we have managed to keep hold of the core of the club. It has been difficult but these players are Caerau. I look forward to working with them all this season.

The two experienced players signed by Baah are Mark Dodds and Grant Stewart. Stewart is a player manager Nana Baah has been chasing to sign for a number of seasons. Baah said “Grant came to us 2 years ago but work and family commitments made it difficult for him to sign. This season, I’m really pleased to have persuaded him to join the club. Grant is a tough tackling presence who is a brilliant passer of the ball”.

The second signing Mark Dodds is a former Merthyr, Newport, Carmarthen and Port Talbot player who comes with a wealth of experience. “Mark played for us against Abedare in a friendly and completely changed the dynamics of the team. He brings a voice onto the field which is extremely difficult to find. Having Toggsy and Mark in the same team is going to be special. Off the field, Mark brings other attributes including his fitness background as a Personal Trainer. These are all qualities the club needs to progress.”

The club welcomes all the new players and wish them the very best for the season.
