Jeff Nicholas28 Jun 2016 - 15:01

Former Camborne player and club official elected President of Cornwall RFU.

On Friday 24th June the CRFU AGM will formally elect Peter James as our new President.

Peter will take over the role from Ken Plummer, a Past President who stood in this season following the untimely passing of the incumbent, the late John Grindle.

Peter is a Life Vice-President of the Union having previously served as Chairman from 2003 until 2008.

Born in Wall, in the parish of Gwinear in 1946 Peter has a proud rugby pedigree both on and off the field. Following his time at Gwinear C.P. School Peter continued his education at Redruth County Grammar School from 1958 to 1964 during which time he played for Cornwall Under 15s, a strong school 1st XV and Cornwall Public and Grammar Schools. His association with Camborne RFC started during this period when he played for Camborne Colts.

Leaving school in 1964 Peter joined the Cornwall Police Cadets and subsequently, at age 19, the Cornwall Constabulary. For many years Peter played for the Cornwall Police RFC.

Peter commenced his senior playing career with Camborne 1st XV in 1964 and subsequently represented Cornwall on three occasions including playing against France ‘B’ in the Michelin Stadium, Clermont Ferrand in France, now the home of Clermont Auvergne. Peter has also played for Hayle RFC.

Off the field Peter was the Camborne representative on the CRFU for a number of years and was Chairman of the Playing Committee until his appointment as Chairman of the CRFU in 2003.

Peter is looking forward to the honour of serving the CRFU as President and his election will be warmly welcomed by everyone involved with our game in Cornwall.
